Aims and scope

Central region of Iran is habitat of many herbs due to its climate diversity, furthermore, large herbal medicine companies such as Goldaroo and Barigessense and several licorice processing factories are located in this region. Excessive harvest of herbs from natural resources is damaging the environment, and cultivation area of herb dropped by a figure of 60% due to water shortage and market fluctuations. Accordingly, sustainable and water efficient production of medical secondary metabolites by use of biotechnological tools have been determined as the main goal of the ABRII’s central region research. Development of secondary metabolite production in bioreactor is consistent with the goal. The other mission is to perform biotechnological researches requested by the region's agricultural administration.
